FTW Ventures, an early-stage venture firm that invests in food and agricultural technology companies, has named Rob Wilder, co-founder of World Central Kitchen, as its first venture partner.
“With a leader like Rob, the future food system is in good hands,” FTW Ventures general partner Brian Frank said in a statement. “He brings unmatched knowledge, connections and operational excellence to our organization and we cannot be more thrilled to partner with him on this journey to bring the food & agriculture industries into the 21st century.”
Wilder works closely with famed chef and restaurateur José Andrés. In 1993, they founded José Andrés Group, which now operates 17 restaurants.
In 2010, Wilder and Andrés co-founded World Central Kitchen, a non-profit that provides food around the world for people affected by natural disasters, famines and conflicts.
In 2015, Wilder founded FoodTech Angels to support early-stage food tech companies. He has served as an advisor, mentor and board member to several early-stage tech and food companies at Halcyon Incubator, TechStars, the Yale Entrepreneurial Institute and the Aspen Institute Food Leaders Fellowship.
FTW Ventures, based in San Francisco, invests in early-stage food and agritech start-ups. “Our goal at FTW Ventures is to find better ways to feed 10B people on the planet by 2050, leveraging all the amazing science & technology the 21st century has to offer,” the firm states on its website.
FTW raised $4 million for its debut fund in 2020 and closed on $19 million for FTW Ventures Fund II in January 2023, according to fundraising data from affiliate title Buyouts. The firm does not disclose the names of its investors.
